HomeMy WebLinkAbout9/18/1972 - City Council - City Council Meeting MinutesSeptember 18, 1972 The regular meeting of the East Wenatchee City Council was called to order by Mayor Forrest Lannoye. Present were Councilmen Cliff Tvedten, Doug Hanna, Ed Rich; Attorney John Carlson, Clerk Dorotha McGee and Cliff Hahn. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as read. The bills were presented to the Council Current expense warrants nos. 4560 - Clifford E. Hahn Charles Kay Walker Dorotha McGee Errol P. Downs Charles S. Syring Dennis A. Mengelos Douglas County Auditor John C. Carlson Herbert J. Olive Pedco Credit Union Wm. M. Hamilton Dorotha McGee Mott W. Liek Street warrant no. 1285 Mott W. Liek U.A.B. Warrant no. 169 Transamerica Title Co. Doug Hanna moved that the bills be passed unanimously. as follows; 4572 $559.65 558.88 214.02 461.21 439.80 452.80 84.10 204.85 40.00 25.00 159.15 352.10 90.46 466.46 33.63 paid; seconded by Ed Rich and Mayor Lannoye and Council members discussed the problem of brush obstructing the drivers view of oncoming traffic at 13th street and the Highway. Mayor Lannoye will contact the Highway Dept. as this is on Highway right-of-way. Mr. Del Magrini and Ron Hubert discussed with the Mayor & Council the proposed housing units to be built on property between Simon and S.E. First st. They inqiured as to the possibility of an alley being bonetructed to permit property owners access to the back of their lots. They also expressed doubts regarding right-of-way. Said persons were requested to contact Mr. Jim Smith and -or Jim Martin regarding these matters. Doug Hanna moved that the tax levy for the year 1973 be set at 7.5 mills; seconded by Cliff Tvedten and passed unanimously. After a discussion, Doug Hanna moved that the City oppose Initative no. 261; seconded by Cliff Tvedten and passed by a unanimous vote. Mayor Lannoye peported on his trip to the Urban Arterial Board meeting in Olympia. He expressed to said Board, appreciation for the funds alloted to the City for The Main and Baker street projects. He also stated that he had purchased from WSP, a 1971 model autom-bile for the police Dept. for $1,600.00. Said amount and costs to be deducted from the Police budget for 1973. The Council approved said purchase. A discussion was also held regarding the amount spent by the Police Dept. for uniforms in 1972. Permission was riven for the expenditure of $335.00 for winter shirts and coats. 1 1 No expenditures in excess of $25.00 are to be made by any Dept. ' unless approved in advAnce by the City Council. Mayor Lannoye stated that no more reserve officers were to be added to the force. The Mayor reported the City Hall bldg. has no insulation in the roof. He was authorized by the Council to check on costs for insulating sarpe. Ed Rich moved to adjourn; seconded by Cliff Tvedten and passed by a unanimous vote. Ma or n ' Clerk
