HomeMy WebLinkAbout6/13/1977 - City Council - City Council Meeting MinutesJune 13, 1977 A Special meeting of the East Wenatchee City Council was called to order by Mayor Johnson. Present were Councilmen Ed Rich, Ray Duncan, Darrell,McNeill, Hartley Beeler; Attorney Neil Fuller and Clerk Dorotha McGee. The meeting had been requested by the Wenatchee Valley T.V. Cable Co. and was regarding the matter of the T.V. Franchise. Mayor Johnson stated that each T.V. Cable Co. would be allowed 5 minutes for presentation, after which the City Council members and then Citizens will participate in a question and answer period. Pat Aylward introduced Wenatchee Valley T.V. Cable Co. Board members Craig McCaw, Joe Loebsack, Clyde Ballard, Tom Warren, and Art Reider, Clyde Ballard presented slides and a resume of rates and proposed service and ownership of the Wenatchee Valley T.V. Cable Co. by the McCaw Family, William Cox, representing Teleprompter Cable T.V., spoke regarding service provided by Teleprompter for the past 24 years, and stated his objection to the tactics and letter distributed by the Wenatchee Valley T.V. Cable Co. Marshall Nelson, Attorney for Telepropmter spoke of the advertising done by Wenatchee Valley T.V. and informed those present of the future service that will be provided when the earth station is completed. Councilman Duncan inquired as to the length of time needed to install a new system. Mr. McCaw stated that he feels the present Company will fight FCC approval and that could result in a delay. Tom Alexander, for Teleprompter, stated that the FCC will investigate and will require a full financial disclosure.. Ed Rich inquired of Teleprompter - how up to date is the system? Bill Grimstead replied that the system was rebuilt in 1967 and is continously ungraded. More work is scheduled for September and will begin when the franchise is awarded. Councilman Rich, question - how many services are installed in the local area? Bill Cox replied approximately 8,173. Councilman Duncan inquired as to the value of the present system. Mr. Grimstead stated that the system is valued at approximately 12 million dollars. Darrell !"cNeill expressed the opinion that Wenatchee, East Wenatchee Chelan and Douglas Counties should all agree on who is to be awarded the franchise.
