HomeMy WebLinkAbout5/15/1978 - City Council - City Council Meeting MinutesMay 15, 1978 Meeting was called to order by Mayor, Forrest Lannoye. The following were present: Darrell McNeill, Ed Rich, Ray Duncan, Hartley Beeler, Evan Sperline, Attorney, Neil Fuller and Peggy McArthur, Clerk. 'Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as submitted. Darrell McNeill made motion, seconded by Ed Rich and passed unanimously. Bills and accounts were approved as presented, with the exception, that a Warrant to Modern Machinery for street sweeper be held until Councilman, Ray Duncan contacts said company to insure that necessary repairs will be met. Ray Duncan made motion, seconded by Darrell McNeill. Committee Reports: Parks - Councilman McNeill stated he felt it was too late in the season to to top the trees in the park. Councilman Ray Duncan said he had attended the Chamber of Commerce Luncheon in behalf of the City. The City was presented with a Certificate in recognition of efforts to save electricity and raise the energy use awareness within the Community. Councilman Evan Sperline said he should have a list of interested people for the Annexation Commission by the next meeting. There being no objections on the Notice of Hearing of a strip of land on the West side of Main Street petitioned by Jack Horner for Rainier National Bank, authorization was given by the Council to accept Ordinance No. 264. Motion was made by Ray Duncan, seconded by Hartley Beeler and passed unanimously. ' The Council accepted the Notice of Intent to Commence Annexation Proceedings petitioned by Don Telford - presented by Frank Telford. A Hearing for rezoning will be held before the June 5th Council meeting. Motion was made by Ed Rich, seconded by Ray Duncan and passed unanimously. It was moved to schedule a Public Hearing for said annexation June 5th by Evan Sperline, seconded by Ed Rich and passed unanimously. Mayor Forrest Lannoye stated that the plans for the for the signal light at 6th and Main were not complete at this date. Motion was made by Evan Sperline that Bids for Signal Light be opened June 5th at the regular Council meeting, seconded by Darrell McNeill and passed unanimously. Councilman Ed Rich stated he would check with the State Highway Department and the City of Wenatchee on the possibility of contracting with one of them for the maintenance of signal lights within the City of East Wenatchee. Authorization was given to Mr. Pederson, President, East Wenatchee Jacees to purchase a Business License for the purpose of selling fireworks. Motion was made by Ray Duncan, seconded by Ed Rich and passed unanimously, with the under- standing the sale of fireworks in the City not be exclusively limited to the Jacees. Gayle Van Dusen, with the Committee for Community Schools asked for an endorsement by the City Council for establishing a community school program in the East Wenatchee area.
