COUNCIL MEETING
May 21, 1984
Councilmen present: Bill Tarver, Darrell McNeill, Ed Rich, Ray Duncan and Fred Ross.
Attorney Neil Fuller and City Clerk, Peggy McArthur.
Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as presented. Motion was made by
Bill Tarver, seconded by Ray Duncan and passed unanimously.
Bills and accounts were approved as submitted. Motion was made by Ray Duncan,
seconded by Bill Tarver and passed unanimously.
The Council discussed a letter they had received from Bob Goodman in reference to
Street rehabilitation and maintenance. Five streets were listed that Bob felt should
receive priority because of condition and use. The Council asked to postpone this
request until the next meeting so each member could look at the streets.
Al Kessler and Mike May,representing the East Wenatchee District Chamber of Commerce,
asked the Council for 1,500.00 from Stadium fund monies for advertising and promoting
the 2nd East Wenatchee Fun Festival planned for August 17th, 18th and 19th. They
stated the "Fun Run" brings in people State wide.
Les Young, owner of the East Wenatchee Motor Inn, said he felt this was a worthy cause
and with more advertising etc., it would continue to bring more people into the area
each year.
Bill Tarver made a motion that the Council give the Chamber 1,500.00 and asked them
to draft a contract for these funds between the City and Chamber. Seconded by
Ray Duncan and passed unanimously.
Authorization was given by the Council to adopt Ordinance 266 (Mobile home fees).
Motion was made by Fred Ross, seconded by Ed Rich and passed unanimously.
Fifteen minute parking spaces on Valley Mall Parkway was postponed until the next
meeting as Chief Brooks was not present and the Council wanted his opinion.
Mayor Crain passed around a new map put out by the Wenatchee Area Vistors and Convention
Bureau showing that East Wenatchee is now well represented on the map. The Bureau is
requesting 2,000.00 from stadium fund monies for advertising and promotion. The
Council agreed to make these funds available upon completion of an agreement between
City and the Bureau.
The bids for demolition of the old school were again discussed. Neil Fuller explained
that he received a letter from Municipal Research and Services Center regarding a
telepone conversation he had with them concerning the low bid on the school. Their
recommendation was to award the contract to the next lowest bidder or reject all
bids and call for bids again. Neil explained to the Council that the lower bidder,
Products Supply, changed the terms of the bid by asking for payment in advance.
Mayor Crain stated that the City is not committed to tear the school down. The
building and property could be sold as is.
Bill Tarver said the Council did vote to tear the shcool down and made a motion to
reject all bids and call for bids again. Seconded by Ray Duncan and discussion
followed.
