HomeMy WebLinkAbout3/18/1985 - City Council - City Council Meeting MinutesCOUNCIL MEETING
Mar. 18, 1985
Councilmen present: Paul Cassel, Fred Ross, Ed Rich, Ray Duncan and Les Young.
Attorney, Neil Fuller and City Clerk, Peggy McArthur.
Meeting was called to order by Mayor, Don Crain.
Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as presented. Motion was made by
Ray Duncan, seconded by Les Young and passed unanimously.
Bills and accounts were approved as submitted. Motion was made by Ray Duncan,
seconded by Ed Rich and passed unanimously.
There was some discussion about the 9th Street improvement project. Bob Goodman said
the paper work etc, would take several months sod the project could not get going this
year and he suggested that the Council waits to see what the State is going to do with
the River Front project. The State will know what their plans are going to be in July.
He also stated, that the City will know by July, if Rock Island Road project will be
funded by U.A.B. The Council agreed to wait until July before making any plans on the
project.
Bob Goodman said he had talked with a contractor about the drainage problem below Sears
and that he will install the drain pipe across Valley Mall Parkway and do the patching
for $1,800.00. The Council authorized Bob to go ahead with the project, but to also talk
to other contractors and see if any of them would do it for less than $1,800.00.
'Motion was made by Ray Duncan, seconded by Fred Ross and passed uanimously.
Authorization was given by the Council to adopt Ordinance No. 385 (Council meetings
changed from 7:30 to 6:30 P.M.) the first and third Mondays of each month will remain
the same. Motion was made by Fred Ross, seconded by Paul Cassel and passed unanimously.
Authorization was given by the Council to adopt Ordinance No. 386 (Mr. Gackstetter and
Mr. Kincaid annexation) to bring a portion of their property into the City of East
Wenatchee and the zone to be R-L. Motion was made by Fred Ross, seconded by Les Young
and passed unanimously.
Kim Smith, representing Cascade Loop Association gave a presentation. He explained their
functions and requested 18% of the 1983 Stadium Fund monies received. The amount would
be 83,732.27. Les Young said he thought their efforts were positive and it does bring
in tourists. However, he said he had a problem getting any of their brochures to hand
out. The Council appointed Fred Ross and Les Young to do some research on the request
and make their recommendations at the next meeting.
Dick Woods, respresenting the Wenatchee Area Vistors and Convention Bureau, passed out
some information on what the Bureau's plans are. They are putting together a promotional
package. The cost to be $16,547.00 and $5,547.00 is still needed. He said the City
of Wenatchee is donating $5,000.00 but that funding is for convention sales. This
matter will also be researched by Fred Ross and Les Young and will be placed on the
April 1st agenda.
Steve Sadler purchased property located at 1218 N. Baker and requested the Council
to waive the building permit fee. A building permit was issued to Sauer & Sauer,
April 25, 1984 to build a four-plex in the amount of $483.00 and abandoned the project
after putting in a foundation.
