HomeMy WebLinkAbout2/20/1985 - City Council - City Council Meeting MinutesCOUNCIL MEETING Feb. 20, 1985 Council members present: Fred Ross, Paul Cassel, Ray Duncan, Ed Rich and Les Young. Attorney, Neil Fuller and City Clerk, Peggy McArthur. Meeting was called to Order by Mayor, Don Crain. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as presented. Motion was made by Ray Duncan, seconded by Ed Rich and passed unanimously. Bills and accounts were approved is submitted. Motion was made by Ray Duncan, seconded by Paul Cassel and passed unaimously. Bob Goodman said something should be done about a catch basin problem below Sears parking lot that is not hooked up to a storm sewer. With heavy run-off or rain the water runs under the sidewalk and up through the cracks. It was determined that the problem is not entirely caused by the Malls parking lots as the drain never was hooked up to the storm drain. Bob's suggestion was to cross Valley Mall Parkway and tie into the storm drain across the street After much discussion, Ed Rich said he felt that Bob's suggestion was the only solution to the problem. 'Bob was asked to get a couple of estimates on what the cost might be before the next meeting. Mayor Crain said it was nice having Sergeant Kirby back. Sergeant Kirby said everything seems to be going great. He did state, that additional monies may have to be allocated for Reserve Officers in a month or two. Sergeant Kirby said there didn't appear to be an increase in the crime rate with the shortage of police officers. Charile Johnston, Manager of the East Wenatchee Water District passed out a proposed plan for water mains on Hamilton & French Streets. The plans are to install a six inch main on Hamilton to replace a two inch main installed in 1928. The project will involve a hookup on 9th street, extending 775 feet down Hamilton. The entire street will have to be overlayed. Two crossings will be made on French Street and the District will patch those crossings. Work will be done on Standerfer but hopefully Mr. Johnston said, they will be able to stay on the shoulder. Six sections of sidewalk will be replaced on the East side of Hamilton. Bob Goodman, street supervisor said, the only problem he could foresee with the project is that the sidewalk on Hamilton street, in some places, is no more than 2 inches high and with a 2 inch overlay, it would bring the street level up to the sidewalk and could cause a drainage problem. ' Charlie stated the specifications have not been drawn up by their Engineers as yet and he will contact Bob and he can review them and make any suggestions or changes befpre the contract is let.
