HomeMy WebLinkAbout1/18/1989 - City Council - City Council Meeting MinutesCITY OF EAST WENATCHEE COUNCIL MEETING JAN. 18, 1989 Councilmembers present: Les Young, Dawn Collings, Tery McKee and Paul Cassel. City Attorney Charles Zimmerman and City Clerk, Peggy McArthur. Meeting was called to Order by Mayor Richard McGraw. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as presented. Motion was made by Les Young, seconded by Dawn Collings and passed by vote of the Council. Bills and Accounts were approved as Submitted. Motion was made by Les Young, seconded by Tery McKee and passed by vote of the Council. Chief John Flinner stated that he was unable to get a transcriber for 300.00 and asked permission to purchase the lowest quote for a transcriber for $385.00. The Council granted permission to the Chief to purchase the transcriber and advised the City Clerk, that she could also purchase a transcriber at that cost if one was needed for - her office and that she need not come before the Council for the expenditure. Code Compliance Officer Nick Wiltz said demolition of Wenatchi is now in progress. Nick. Wiltz said the fees for conditional use permits and ether permits were costing more than the City is charging applicants and said he was reviewing the permit process. The Council advised him to draft a document showing the cost of handling permits and the cost of publications for their review. Bob Goodman said his computer has been installed and he would be entering some of his permits and street projects. Shirley Bradford asked permission for a fireworks stand permit for the Wenatchee Hockey Club. The stand to be placed in Buttrey's Parking lot. Paul Cassel made a motion to grant the permit. Seconded by Tery McKee and passed by vote of the Council. I Joe Gaspers and Chuck Strawn addressed the Council and asked for funding for the winter games closing ceremony. The Council previously approved $2,000.00 for the winter, games closing ceremonies to be held at Eastmont High School. Chuck Strawn explained what the $2000,00 would be used for. $500.00 would pay for use of the gym. $700.00 would pay for the programs, $300.00 band casts and $500.00 for decorations. An Agreement was given to the gentlemen for Signatures of Committee persons and Paul Cassel asked that it be returned upon execution to the City Clerk and they can then receive the check after the Mayor has signed the document. The Council authorized that the City Engineers finalize the design for the retaining wall at the earner of 13th st. and Arbor Terrace and proceed with the Call for Bids to be opened at the 1st Council meeting in March, 1989. Motion was made by Tery McKee, seconded by Les Yung and passed by vote of the Council. John Pella, representing the Barracuda Swim Team was granted permission for a fireworks stand permit to be erected near the theater can Grant Read. Motion was made by Tery McKee, seconded by Les Young and passed by vote of the Council. There being no further business, Dawn Collings made a motion that the meeting be adjourned, Seconded by Les Young and passed by vote of the Council.
