HomeMy WebLinkAbout1/4/1989 - City Council - City Council Meeting MinutesCITY OF EAST WENATCHEE COUNCIL MEETING JAN. 4, 1989 Councilmembers present: Dawn Collings, Tery McKee, Les Young. City Attorney, Charles Zimmerman and City Clerk. Peggy McArthur. Meeting was called to Order by Mayor- Richard McGraw. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as presented. Motion was made by Tery McKee, seconded by Les Young and passed by vote of the Council. Pills and Accounts were approved as submitted. Motion was made by Dawn Collings, seconded by Terry McKee and passed by vote of the Council. Police Chief Flinner presented the Council with his monthly report and gave a short summary of the report. Chief Flinner credited Officer Bruce Nash with a successful drug investigation during the month of December and claimed a monetary gain of $4,000.00 for the City and netted six arrests for the delivery of a controlled substance and two warrants requested for ether individuals for delivery of a controlled substance. Chief Flinner also praised Officer Schulz for his efforts on traffic safety during the holidays and three D.W.I. arrests. Chief Flinner stated that from November through December, reserve officers put in 1,555 hours in patrol and ether, support activities with the Police Department. Chief Flinner was given permission by the Council to purchase a transcriber for the police department and stated it would also be used by the ether departments. He stated the cost to be under $300.00. The Council said if it appears that a second transcriber is necessary, the Clerk could purchase one to be shared by her _office and the planning office. Bob Goodman said 800 tulip bulbs were planted at the view point and should be very colorful in the spring. and that the landscaping has been completed. Bob Goodman said the PCI ice melter that they used this year, decreased hours of sanding and appeared to be, money well spent. Mayor McGraw asked Bob if he would talk with the County and see if something could be done with 15th Street. He stated that it is in very poor condition. Nick Wiltz presented the Council with a 1988 Planning and Building Department Report showing the building valuation from 1986 to present and fees collected for the three years. Nick also stated that Wenatchi had purchased a demolition permit and would have job completed within 30 days. Councilman Tery McKee said the flood control issue was not dead and that the City and County would be meeting again in the next week or so and that he would keep the Council apprised. The Council appointed Tery McKee to the position of Mayor Pro-Tem for the year 1989. Mayer McGraw said that Mary Jo Diaz, an attorney for the Attorney General's Office was contacted and she stated that the position of Council Person Dawn Collings, based on the fact that she did have to run for office, that she should be entitled to the 200.00 salary increase, effective at the time she took office in December of 1987. Mayer McGraw said Dawn Collings would be paid the additional 140.00 per month for 13 months and this should come out of the 1989 budget and suggested the increase in the Legislative Budget be supplemented out of the 1989 Contingency Fund. The Council concurred. Motion was made by Tery McKee that the next regular meeting be set January 18, 1989 at 5:30 P.M. so anyone wishing, could attend the Chamber � �f Commerce Banquet at 6:30 P.M. Motion was seconded by Les Young and passed by vote of the Council. There being no further business, Les Young made a motion that the meeting be adjourned, seconded by Tery McKee and passed by vote of the Council.
