HomeMy WebLinkAbout2/18/1987 - City Council - City Council Meeting MinutesCITY OF EAST WENATCHEE COUNCIL MEETING ' FEB. 18, 1987 Council members present: Tery McKee, Paul Cassel, Brian Taylor, Les Young and Dick McGraw. City Attorney Charles Zimmerman and Deputy City Clerk, Virginia Kinzel Meeting was called to Order by Mayor Don Crain. Before the minutes of the previous meeting were approved Mayor Crain questioned the approval of the Council accepting the contract between the City of East Wenatchee and McConnell/Burke for another year, and if the County would be working in conjunction with the City Plan. Mr. McKee stated the County would work together with the City to line up zoning to correlate with the City's Plan. Also it was understood that at any time the City was not satisfied they had a thirty day option to discontinue the contract. Mayor Crain asked why a fire hydrant had not been placed at 455-9th Street N.E. Mr. McKee said he had talked with Fire Chief Ron Combs and had been assured the Fire Departments two Pumper Trucks were adequate to handle a fire situation at the Mobile Home Park. At this time the Mayor made a motion to accept the minutes as written. The Council agreed unanimously. ' Mr. McKee made a motion to accept the list of bills as presented. Seconded by Paul Cassel and passed unanimously. Mr. McKee handed the Council an Addendum to Contract he had just received from Mr. Burke. Mayor Crain gave the agreement to City Attorney Chuck Zimmerman, who after reading suggested that, "Payment for these services will not exceed $18,000.00", be inserted in place of "Payment for these services will be $18,000.00 It was agreed to change the wording and initialed by Mayor Crain. Chief of Police Harold Kirby asked the Councils permission to set up a drug fund to assist in drug investigations. The Council questioned the ways and means of this fund and after much discussion City Attorney Chuck Zimmerman was asked to draw up an Ordinance and a Resolution outlining the project in its entirety and present it to the Council at a later date. The Mayor questioned where the money would come from for such a fund as it had not been budgeted for 1987. Chuck Zimmerman said he would contact the Treasurer/Clerk Peggy McArthur to see if a line item could be added to the Police budget. Chief Kirby passed out a new job description he had drawn up for the Chief of Police position. Paul Cassel suggested this be tabled at the present time. Chief Kirby further stated he had talked with Walt Trefry regarding computerizing his records system. Mayor Crain suggested this be an item for next years budget. Chief Kirby informed the Council he had gotten three quotes to replace the existing carpet in the Police Department area. He said the present one was a safety hazzard in its present state. Chief Kirby was given permission to accept Eastside Carpets' quote of $978.60. Motion was made by Tery McKee, seconded by Les Young and passed unanimously. There being no further business, Dick McGraw made a motion that the meeting be adjourned. Seconded by Paul Cassel and passed unanimously.
