SPECIAL SESSION OF THE CITY COUNCIL CONVENED
MAYOR STEVEN C. LACY, PRESIDING
SEPTEMBER 18, 2001
6:30 P.M.
ROLL CALL
Councilmembers Present: Councilmember Smet, Councilmember Bremmer, Councilmember Buchner,
Councilmember Nash, Councilmember DeWitt and Mayor Lacy. Councilmember Aiken and
Councilmember Hendricks, excused.
Council Action: A motion was made by Councilmember Bremmer, second by Councilmember Nash to
excuse Councilmember Aiken. The motion carried, 5-0.

excuse Councilmember Hendricks. The motion carried, 5-0.
Staff Present: Dana Barnard, Lori Barnett
Mayor Lacy said he had received a letter from Mayor Shigeyoshi Suzuki of Misawa, Japan offering
sympathies for the World Trade Center terrorist attack on September 11, 2001. Mayor Lacy read the letter
into the record.

Dear Mayor Steven C. Lacy,
I am deeply grieved to know that so many people were killed by the deadly incident by terrorists that
attacked several areas on America. Their evil acts took away their precious lives in a moment. Since your
country is Japans friend, I take this seriously.
I am so anxious about the safety of all your loved ones such as your family, relatives and friends, who
might be or were at the attacked places.
The attacks are too outrageous and definitely unforgivable. My mind is full of rage against their
devastating acts. I hereby express my deepest condolences on the victims and also wish to offer my
sincere sympathy.
I was reported that you and the citizens have been working very hard since the incident to extend aid for
those injured and involved in the attack. Please keep up your hard work with taking good care of yourself.
May peace prevail on your country soon as possible.
