A discussion with Fire Chief Dave Baker and Fire Marshal Brian Bret from Douglas County Fire
District No. 2 regarding fireworks.
Fire Chief Dave Baker and Fire Marshal Brian Bret introduced themselves and answered questions from
City Council regarding safe and sane fireworks, illegal fireworks, illegal locations of discharge, and
whether or not officials must witness the discharge of illegal fireworks in order to issue a citation. They
indicated that current data does not support a ban of fireworks, and noted they get approximately 3-4 calls
each year regarding illegal fireworks.
PUBLIC COMMENT(S)
Hope Schooley, 1119 Park Roy Place SE, gave an update regarding the votes received on her petition to
ban fireworks in East Wenatchee and Wenatchee. She distributed a copy of the results and lists of
signatures to Mayor Lacy and Council. Mayor Lacy thanked her and her family for having an interest in a
fireworks ban, and bringing the issue forward for discussion regardless of the outcome.
' Finance Director Nick Gerde distributed and reviewed the minutes from the Budget Committee meeting
held on November 19, 2014. He also submitted a list of budget items that arose after the Budget
Committee meeting, which will have an impact on the budget. He noted these changes would be included
in a revised ordinance for second reading at the December 9, 2014 City Council meeting.
