HomeMy WebLinkAbout11/20/1967 - City Council - City Council Meeting MinutesNovember 20, 1967 The regular meeting of the East Wenatchee Town Council was called to order by Mayor Pro-tem Lawrence Letts. Present were Councilmen ' Harry Patrick, Art O'Neal, nay Haase, Arnold Stevens and Clerk Dorotha McGee. The newly elected Councilmen were sworn into office as follows: Lawrence Letts and hay Haase, four year term; Harry Patrick and Arnold Stevens, two year term. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and stand approved as read. Lawrence Letts reported that Cities and Towns with a population under 5,000 persons may secure State funds for engineering services. Ray Haase reported that the light has been installed in the park, and also at the Thriftway Shopping Center entrance. Lawrence Letts introduced Mr. Bill Phillips and Mr. Charles Lewis from the Joint Planning Council. ' general discussion was held regarding the advantages of comprehensive planning and zoning, and the establishment of a Planning Commission for East Wenatchee. Lawrence Letts inquired about the cost of a comprehensive plan for East Wenatchee. The Council was told that a plan could be formulated for no cost by using local participation. Mr. Lewis stated that Planning Commission members would beapproved by the Council. Any changes in zoning or variances would be studied by the Commission and forwarded to the Council for final action. Ray Haase made a motion that the Council pass a resolution to establish an East Wenatchee Planning Commission; motion seconded by Arnold Stevens and passed by a unanimous vote. Art O'Neal stated that he felt Planning Commission members should reside within the Town limits. Lawrence Letts presented three names of prospebtive members willing to serve on the Planning CommissioTi. Names as follows: Mrs. Dora Faye Davis, Mr. Dennis Irish and Mr. John Monroe. Mr. Lewis suggested a meeting be held with the Town Council and above persons for a discussion on the needs for a Planning Commission. Mr. Phillips and Mr. Lewis promised to aid in any way possible. Arnold Stevens made a motion to adjourn; motion seconded by Ray Haase and passed by a unanimous vote. Mayor Clerk
