The regular meeting of the East Wenatchee City Council was called
to order by Mayor Forrest Lannoye. Present were Councilmen Art
O'Neal, Doug Hanna, Arnold Stevens; Attorney John Carlson, Clerk
Dorotha McGee, Sheriff Chet Bowers, Bill Williams, Deputy, and
Douglas County Commissioners Bechtol, r'armer and Van Well.
City and County officials present discussed mutual problems of
the City and County and recent articles published in the Wenatchee
Daily World.
Mike Lynch, North Central Regional Library, presented a letter to
the Mayor and Council clarifying library service to City residents.
He also presented a sample contract to the Council for study. He
stated that the City may contract for library service and need
not furnish a building. Cost of said service will be 2 mills of
the assessed property valuation. Mayor Lannoye stated that the
Council would need time to study this proposal.
Mayor Lannoye inquired about the Council's feelings about the new
sales tax. After a discussion, the majority felt that since the
10 million dollar aid to cities would not be forthcoming, the city
would have no other alternative.
Mayor Lannoye read a letter of resignation from Councilman Ray
Haase. Arnold Stevens made a motion to accept the resignation;
' motion seconded by Doug Hanna and passed unanimously. The Clerk
was instructed to send a letter of appreciation to Mr. Haase.
The minutes of the previous meetinl- were approved as read.
Mayor Lannoye reported receiving citizens complaints regarding a
school bus on Baker street. John Carlson took this matter under
advisement and will check the zoning ordinance.
Mayor Lannoye presented a letter from the Chelan County Port
district regarding river navigation. After a discussion, Council
members decided to send a letter in favor.
Art O'Neal made a motion to adjourn; motion seconded by Doug
Hanna and passed unanimously.
