HomeMy WebLinkAbout1/18/1971 - City Council - City Council Meeting MinutesJanuary 18, 1971 The regular meeting of the East Wenatchee City Council was called to order by Mayor Forrest Lannoye. Present were Councilmen Cliff Tvedten, Art O'Neal, Doug Hanna, Ed Rich; City Attorney John Carlson and Clerk Dorotha McGee. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as read. Mayor Lannoye reported that Bob Lancaster had offered to sell the City Firestone tires for the loader at thefollowing prices: tubeless 187.16 each; tube type, 175.50 each; & tubes, 11.67 each. Said prices include mounting expense. Mayor Lannoye presented a list of city street lights in operation January 1, 1971. The total number of street lights in the city on that date was 115. Mayor Lannoye and Council members instructed the Clerk to obtain rates for insurance for Police prisoners working out fines and sentences. Daily and/or hourly rates if possible. Mayor Lannoye informed the Council that a portion of the property above the old gravel pit, formerly offered for sale to the city by Lawrence Letts, could now be purchased for $20,000.00. After a discussion, Council members decided they were not interested in purchasing said property. Mayor Lannoye and Council discussed the purchase of the lots located on Main Street. Property owners are Mr. McDevitt, Mr. Trosper, and Mr. Neal Walters. The Mayor recommended that the city purchase all four lots or none. Mr. McDevitt offerddhis property for $15,000.00; Mr. Trosper, $6,000.00, and Mr. Walters, $4,500.00. Mayor Lannoye also stated that the sewer line�gp the Trosper roperty would have to be lowered at an approximate o the city of 1,000.00. All Council members spoke in favor of said purchase if all four lots are bought. John Carlson was requested to contact the property owners. John Carlson, Mayor Lannoye and Council members discussed a proposed investigators fund for the Police Department. Said fund to be used for the purchase of narcotics by the East Wenatchee Police Department, while investigating narcotics violations. City Officials decided that arrests made for possession of drugs should be tried in City Court and arrests for selling should be cited into Douglas County Superior Court. For prosecution of narcotics violations heard in City Court the City Attorney was instructed to take whatever action is necessary. The Mayor stated that the City Hall needs a legal size filing cabinet. The Council authorized the Mayor to purchase said filing cabinet.
